Seawall Campground
On the quieter, less-touristed western side of Mount Desert Island near Southwest Harbor, Seawall trades some of Blackwoods’ convenience for a genuinely calmer pace — every site here is within walking distance of the rocky coastline, and the surrounding area is better suited to biking and kayaking than crowd-dodging. The campground sits about eighteen miles from Bar Harbor, so plan for a longer drive if the busier Park Loop Road sights are on your list, but the payoff is a noticeably more peaceful base for exploring Acadia’s ‘quiet side.’ Sites offer potable water and flush-toilet restrooms, and while there are no hookups, the walk-in and drive-up tent sites here are some of the most scenic in the park, several within earshot of the surf. This is our pick for anyone who has already done the highlights loop once and wants to slow down — Southwest Harbor’s restaurants and Bass Harbor Head Light are both close by, and the whole area feels noticeably less crowded even in the height of summer. Like Blackwoods, reservations open six months out and the most desirable sites go fast, so plan ahead if you have specific dates in mind.
