Rio Grande Village Campground
On the park’s eastern side along the Rio Grande, Rio Grande Village is Big Bend’s largest campground and the best-equipped for RVs, with a separate RV Campground nearby offering full hookups through a park concessioner. The main campground itself has flush toilets, potable water, and shaded sites among cottonwood and mesquite trees — a genuine oasis compared to the surrounding desert. This is also one of the best spots in the park for birdwatching, with over 450 species recorded in the area, and the nearby Rio Grande Village Nature Trail offers an easy evening walk with river views into Mexico. Being at lower elevation than Chisos Basin, it runs hotter in summer, so this is very much a fall-through-spring destination like the rest of the park. A small camp store and gas station nearby make it a practical base if you want real supplies close by rather than driving back to Study Butte or Terlingua.
