Camp 4
A genuinely legendary spot in the history of American rock climbing, Camp 4 is a walk-in, tent-only campground in Yosemite Valley that’s been the traditional base for the park’s climbing community for decades, right below some of the most famous big walls in the world. Sites are primitive and communal — shared between climbers and other campers on a per-person basis rather than a typical single-family site — with vault toilets and potable water nearby, no hookups. Its central valley location and modest cost make it a popular option even for non-climbers, though its small size and cult status mean genuinely fierce competition for spots, especially the walk-up, first-come portion still reserved each morning.
