The largest and most central campground in Shenandoah, Big Meadows sits right on Skyline Drive at one of the park’s signature open meadows, genuinely one of the best spots in the park for wildlife viewing, with deer commonly grazing right at the meadow’s edge. Sites offer flush toilets and potable water, some with electrical hookups, and a camp store, restaurant, and visitor center are all nearby — more amenities than most Shenandoah campgrounds offer. Its central Skyline Drive location makes it a strong base for reaching both Dark Hollow Falls and the South River Falls area without a long drive. Given its popularity, reservations for peak fall foliage season book out especially fast — plan well ahead if autumn color is your priority.
