Jumbo Rocks Campground
The largest campground in Joshua Tree National Park, Jumbo Rocks sits right among the park’s namesake giant granite boulder formations, making it one of the most photogenic places to pitch a tent anywhere in the desert Southwest. Sites are primitive, with vault toilets and no potable water on site (fill up before you arrive), no hookups, and the sprawling boulder-strewn setting means real privacy between sites despite the campground’s size. Its central location within the park puts you within easy reach of Skull Rock, the Hidden Valley area, and several of the park’s best short hikes. Given its popularity and size, this campground still books out fast in the cooler months (fall through spring) when most visitors come — reservations are essential well in advance.
