Overview:
Verkamp’s Visitor Center is in the Village Historic District near El Tovar, in a 1906 building that served as the Verkamp family’s curio shop for more than a century. The National Park Service bought it and opened it as a visitor center in 2008. Exhibits focus on the Grand Canyon community, what it was like to live and work at the edge of the canyon, and a short film made from the Verkamp family’s home movies plays in the exhibit area. A Grand Canyon Conservancy park store is inside. It is convenient for visitors arriving by the Grand Canyon Railway, and the rim of the canyon is just outside the door.
