The Harry Hampton Visitor Center is the heart of Congaree National Park and the starting point for the Boardwalk Loop, the elevated trail through the park’s old-growth bottomland forest. Rangers at the information desk can give you a trail map, current conditions, and ranger program schedules. Inside are exhibits on the floodplain’s ecology and on the effort to protect the forest, Junior Ranger materials for kids, a bookstore and gift shop, and restrooms. Wheelchairs are available to borrow, and the boardwalk is accessible. Because the floodplain can be wet, check trail conditions here before you head out. There is no entrance fee at Congaree.
