The Grand Canyon Visitor Center is the main information stop on the South Rim, in the Canyon View Information Plaza close to Mather Point. Permanent exhibits and sidewalk signs outside the building cover trip planning and hiking information, and rangers are available to help with conditions and programs. Across the plaza, a Grand Canyon Conservancy store sells books and maps and has passport stamps. The center is also a hub for the free park shuttle, so it is where many visitors leave the car and head to the rim. Mather Point, one of the park’s most popular overlooks, is a short walk away, so you can see the canyon within minutes of arriving.
