The Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center is the main entrance and the best-equipped visitor center in Everglades National Park, near Homestead on the park’s east side. It is named for the activist who led the fight to protect the wetlands, and it has a large exhibit area on the Everglades’ water, wildlife, and history, a theater showing the park orientation film, an information desk, and a bookstore. Exhibits include audio recordings of the Everglades environment and tactile wildlife displays, and signs in the restrooms and theater are also in Braille. It is the first stop for many visitors, and it makes a good place to get your bearings before driving the long road to Flamingo and stopping at Royal Palm and the Anhinga Trail.
