Overview:
Castolon is a small, rustic visitor center in a historic settlement on the park’s west side, near the end of the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive and close to Santa Elena Canyon. The old buildings here date to the days when farmers and soldiers lived along the Rio Grande, and the nearby La Harmonia store sells basic supplies. Stop in to ask about river conditions in Santa Elena Canyon and the best times of day on the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive, which is one of the park’s best drives. It pairs naturally with a visit to Cottonwood Campground and the Santa Elena Canyon Trail.
