The only visitor center in Arches National Park sits just inside the entrance, about five miles north of Moab off US-191, so you will pass it before you see a single arch. Inside are exhibits on the park’s geology and wildlife, a park film, and a bookstore run by the cooperating association, along with rangers who can tell you which trailheads are filling up and where the timing is best for light and crowds. Drinking water, restrooms, and free parking are available, which makes it a good place to fill bottles before any hike, because there is no water at the trailheads. Hours change with the season, running longest in summer and shortest in winter. The center is closed on December 25.
