Tuolumne Meadows Campground
The largest campground in Yosemite and the primary base for the park’s stunning high country, Tuolumne Meadows sits at roughly 8,600 feet along Tioga Road, a genuinely different landscape from the granite walls of Yosemite Valley below. Sites offer flush toilets and potable water, no hookups, and the campground’s high-elevation location puts you close to some of the best alpine hiking in the entire Sierra Nevada, well away from the valley’s summer crowds. Given Tioga Road’s seasonal closure — typically open only from late May or June through October, snowpack dependent — this is a firmly warm-season destination, and reservations for peak summer dates are competitive given the campground’s popularity with hikers heading into the high country.
