Down in Cedar Grove, on the floor of the actual canyon that gives Kings Canyon its name, Sentinel Campground puts you deep in the park’s dramatic granite scenery, a genuinely different feel from the sequoia groves near the entrance. Sites offer flush toilets and potable water, no hookups, and the campground’s location makes it the natural base for hiking to Roaring River Falls, Zumwalt Meadow, and the longer trek to Mist Falls. Given the drive into Cedar Grove is long, winding, and seasonal (typically closed in winter due to snow), this campground only operates roughly late spring through fall — check current road status before planning around it, since access can shift year to year based on snowpack.
