The counterpart to Rock Harbor on the island’s western end, Windigo Campground sits a short walk from the second of Isle Royale’s two ferry docks, offering the same easy, near-immediate access without a real backcountry hike required. Sites are primitive, with pit toilets nearby and no potable hookups, and the campground puts you close to the visitor center and the trailhead for several of the island’s western routes, including the Feldtmann Ridge Loop. Windigo tends to see fewer visitors than Rock Harbor overall, making it a slightly quieter entry point to the island for anyone whose ferry route brings them in on this side. Same seasonal rules apply — the island closes entirely each winter, so this is a summer-only option.
