Nāmakanipaio Campground
The main campground in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes, Nāmakanipaio sits in a eucalyptus grove near the park entrance, a short drive from the Kīlauea Visitor Center and Crater Rim Drive. Sites include both tent camping and rustic cabins (booked separately through the park’s concessioner), with restrooms and potable water available, though no hookups. Its convenient location makes it a solid base for exploring Kīlauea Iki, Steam Vents, and the rest of the park’s volcanic highlights without a long drive each day. Given ongoing volcanic activity in the region, it’s worth checking current park alerts before your visit, since access to specific areas can shift depending on conditions — though the campground itself is generally unaffected.
