Apgar Campground
The largest campground in Glacier National Park, Apgar sits at the southern end of Lake McDonald near the west entrance, with easy access to both the lake’s beaches and the start of Going-to-the-Sun Road. Sites accommodate tents and RVs (no hookups), with flush toilets and potable water available, and the village of Apgar right next door offers a camp store, restaurants, and boat rentals if you don’t want to be fully self-sufficient. Being at the park’s western gateway, this is the natural base for anyone planning to drive Going-to-the-Sun Road from the start, and its size means it’s often the best chance of finding a summer site when smaller campgrounds are full. Given its popularity, reservations for peak summer months are worth securing well in advance.
