Squaw Flat Campground (The Needles)
In the more remote Needles District, Squaw Flat is a genuinely scenic, well-regarded campground set among red rock formations and piñon-juniper woodland, with far fewer visitors than anything near Moab. Sites have potable water, vault toilets, and picnic tables, though no hookups, and about half the sites can be reserved in advance while the rest remain first-come, first-served. This is the natural base for the Needles District’s best hikes, including the long Chesler Park and Joint Trail Loop, putting serious hikers right at the trailhead rather than facing an extra hour’s drive each morning. Given how far the Needles District sits from other services, come stocked with supplies — the nearest real town is well over an hour away.
