The only developed campground in Canyonlands’ most-visited district, Willow Flat is a small, primitive campground on the Island in the Sky mesa, offering genuinely dramatic canyon-country views without the crowds of nearby Arches. There’s no potable water here at all — bring everything you’ll need — and just vault toilets and picnic tables at each site, but the payoff is waking up to sunrise over Green River Canyon a short walk from your tent. Sites are first-come, first-served only, no reservations, and this small campground (a dozen or so sites) fills quickly on weekends and in peak season, so arriving early in the day is genuinely important if you’re counting on a spot. Its location puts you close to Grand View Point and Mesa Arch, making it easy to catch both sunset and sunrise without much driving.
