The main developed campground at Black Canyon of the Gunnison sits right on the South Rim, an easy walk from several of the park’s most dramatic overlooks and the trailhead for the Rim Rock and Oak Flat Trails. Loops A and B have standard sites with flush toilets nearby (Loop A also offers some electrical hookups), while Loop C is a more rustic, walk-in tent area. What makes this campground genuinely special is proximity — you can walk to a canyon-rim overlook for sunset or sunrise without ever starting the car, and it’s a certified Dark Sky Park, so nighttime here means genuinely excellent stargazing right from your site. It’s far less crowded than campgrounds at Utah’s bigger canyon parks nearby, which makes it a good, quieter option even in peak summer season.
