Why Visit?:

Lake Clark combines volcanoes, glaciers, and salmon-filled rivers with some of Alaska's best bear-viewing at Silver Salmon Creek, reachable only by small plane from Anchorage. It offers a similar bear-watching experience to nearby Katmai, often with fewer crowds at its viewing sites.

The surrounding landscape is genuinely varied — active volcanoes, turquoise lakes, and coastal wetlands all within one park, giving it more range than its bear-viewing reputation alone suggests.

Things to Do:

Bear viewing at Silver Salmon Creek, typically arranged through a guided day trip from Anchorage, is the main draw and genuinely rivals Katmai's Brooks Falls experience. Fishing on the Chilikadrotna or other salmon-filled rivers is a popular addition for visitors extending their stay.

For a broader view of the landscape, a flightseeing trip over the park's volcanoes and glaciers rounds out a visit beyond just the bear-viewing sites.

Closest airports: There's no direct commercial airport at the park — most visitors fly from Anchorage directly to Port Alsworth or a bear-viewing site via small charter plane.

Nearby Attractions:

Katmai National Park, also fly-in only with its own famous bear viewing, is a common pairing for a broader Alaska bear-focused trip.
